One of the things that can really fuel your story is the relationship between characters. This may be the protagonist and antagonist, but it can also be a relationship between one of your main characters and a minor character, or an subplot between two minor characters entirely.

Consider how this relationship affects the plot. Does it create conflict? Does it create an unexpected alliance? Does it force a character to make a choice they would rather not make? The most memorable relationships in fiction are the ones where both characters want something — and those wants are at least partially in conflict.
